History of the Pi Sigma Alpha Newsletter (excerpt from Newsletter feature of Fall 2008, Vol. 17, No. 1- plus updates where appropriate)
The Pi Sigma Alpha Newsletter has been published continuously since Academic Year 1991-92 (volume 1). Its quality and utility to members was quickly realized under the inaugural editorship of Professor Charles M. Tidmarch of Union College (NY). Tragically, the Newsletter only benefited from Professor Tidmarch’s dedication until 1993, when he passed away at age 50 after an extended illness (see “Charles M. Tidmarch” (In Memoriam), Pi Sigma Alpha Newsletter 3:1, p. 3). That same year, ΠΣΑ welcomed its then-new Executive Director, James I. Lengle of Georgetown University, and Professor Lengle found and then entrusted the Newsletter’s editorship to Professor John Tierney of Boston College. Tierney’s editorship (volumes 3-9) brought a number of innovations and an expansion of news coverage throughout the Society. Professor John Kuzenski, who succeeded Tierney in Fall, 2000 (volume 9; the volume numbering structure was later overhauled to match the academic year with the Fall issue being "No. 1" and Spring issue being "No. 2"), has been Editor since that time and was charged with the successful transition of the Newsletter to its new all-electronic format on the World Wide Web during Academic Year 2008-09.
